Applications for NUOVINOX

  Rebar for Roads, Bridges, Buildings

NUOVINOX offers stainless steel's optimum corrosion resistance, but at a fraction of its price, to prevent concrete from "spalling." Spalling occurs when rebar corrodes, forming a metallic oxides which cause the rebar to expand to several times its initial volume, thereby cracking the concrete which leads to visible spalling.

Rebar corrosion occurs under abnormally low alkalinity conditions in concrete. This is due to the application of salt against icy road conditions, marine environments and high saline water tables, which when absorbed into the concrete, reduces the alkaline level. Roads, bridges and buildings are affected.

Grid Flooring for Marine, Chemical, Petroleum and Petrochemical Structures

Corrosion is a severe problem in marine, chemical, petroleum, petrochemical and other hostile environments. In consequence, structures, when made of material liable to corrode such as coated carbon steels, are subject to heavy preventative and replacement maintenance, which is both expensive and hazardous. Fire resistance is also an important consideration in these applications.

NUOVINOX, on a product life basis, is less costly than the oft-used mild steel. Plus, NUOVINOX exceeds the strength specifications for mild steel. It can be used for stairways, ladders, walkways, handrails, gratings and floors of such structures.

Flat Angles, Round Bars and Sections for Architectural and Engineering

Flat angles, round bars and sections are used for reinforcement and their aesthetic appearance in construction or engineering projects. Until now, many companies resorted to cladded materials with a thin gauge stainless steel sheet through expensive adhesive or wrapping process which limited them to indoor uses only.

Today, architects and designers have NUOVINOX available to them. NUOVINOX is versatile and robust. It can be used under a wide rage of fabricating techniques, such as, press braking, forming, bending and twisting. NUOVINOX can be mechanically or chemically polished to the same high surface finish as their solid equivalents.

Fencing, Balustrading, Crowd Barriers for Architectural Applications

NUOVINOX offers Architects an alternative to high maintenance materials used for fencing and crowd barriers. NUOVINOX is robust and virtually maintenance free because of its high relative strength and stainless steel aesthetic properties. It can be used in both outdoor and indoor settings.

NUOVINOX is metallurgically bonded, it can be formed in various ways, such as, press braking, bending and twisting. Its corrosive resistant properties deem it acceptable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Food, Beverage and Dairy Industries

Hygiene is the most important factor in the food, beverage and dairy industries. Components and equipment within a plant must be made of materials that promote proper hygiene. Stainless steel has been the favored choice, until NUOVINOX introduced itself as the most cost-efficient alternative to stainless steel. NUOVINOX has the same corrosive resistant properties as stainless steel; therefore, it's able to keep the industries' plants hygienically clean, without the high costs.

A Substitute For Stainless Steel for the Food & Beverage Industry

Stelax's NUOVINOX is less expensive and more corrosion resistant than mild steel. There is a large variety of potential markets for NUOVINOX. It exhibits the corrosion resistant characteristics of solid stainless steel, while it is likely to be priced on terms comparable to coated mild steels.
