Stelax's specialized plant, born in the cradle of the UK's steel industry,
is located at Briton Ferry, Neath in South Wales. It comprises 130,000
square feet of production space and 8,000 square feet of office and administrative
space.
It is strategically positioned at the hub of road, rail and shipping
facilities to competitively reach into Europe and the rest of the world.
The fully integrated plant comprising a "green" NUOVINOX steel
making plant. The hot bar mill consists of:
- An automated and continuous scrap processing plant that convert a low
priced metal scrap by-product into a high grade carbon steel raw material
which metallurgically transforms into NUOVINOX's carbon steel core.
- Two continuous Plasma-TIG welding pipe mills for converting stainless
steel coil into heavy walled stainless steel pipes, which become metallurgically
bonded stainless steel cladding of the finished product.
- A 600 ton fully automated high production press which combines the
carbon steel core and the stainless steel pipe into "billets"
destined for heating and hot rolling into NUOVINOX bars. The press has
a capacity of 100 tons per day.
- A fully automatic Schloeman-Morgardshammer hot rolling mill comprising:
- A 10t/hour walking beam furnace
- A High-Reduction-Planetary Mill (PWS)
- A 4-stand 20"-16" intermediate mill
- A 6-stand Horizontal-Vertical 16"-12" in-line finishing mill
The Company's High-Reduction-Planetary Mill made by Schloeman-Seigmag
increased its production capacity. This mill includes a flying shear,
an in-line induction coil furnaceenabling it to control in process
and finishing temperaturesand an in-line 20" stand. This rolling line is positioned for greatest
flexibility, so as to work either in conjunction with the other rolling
lines or independently.
The two rolling mill lines, with a total capacity of 500 Tons per day,
are presently governed by the furnace capacity of 200 Tons of NUOVINOX
and stainless steel bars a day.
Stelax is also served by a comprehensively equipped "wet" and "dry"
laboratory which enables it to control chemical compositions, physical
characteristics and corrosion resistance, of all in-coming and out-going
materials.
